St Colette 2011

At TMD we are now in the run up to one of our annual events, the Blessing of St Colette on Saturday, February 5th at 3.30 pm. Colette, the great fifteenth century reformer of the Poor Clares is one of the mother and baby patrons. So on the Saturday nearest her feast the peace of the monastery chapel is rent by the singing of babies. Both on St Colette’s feast and throughout the year, people come here to be prayed for because they long to conceive a child – or are expecting one. Sick children are also brought for a blessing. Although on her feast the blessing takes place after the Gospel during Mass, we welcome all people of goodwill who would like to be prayed for.

We also receive many phone and email requests for prayer which we mention at the intercessions. The newborns present have mostly been brought by appreciative parents and grandparents in thanksgiving for prayers from the previous year.

Prayer is fairly successful. A local couple appeared on the first feast after their wedding and were duly blest, but after the fifth baby they stopped coming.....

Carol Service 2010

Saturday 27 November
6.30 pm

Life. Christ was born; that is an historical fact.

Too may angels to count appeared over a hillside around 2010 years ago proclaiming glory to God and peace to humanity - and up come these rather dear people, polishing their misted sunglasses at midnight, with a little poster on a pole saying 'Relax, God may not exist"......

This service for the eve of the First Sunday of Advent is about life God's life and ours. It is a Vigil for Life
Apologies to those who looked in this spot for the ad for the Autumn Fair - we had it and it went well!

The Portiuncula Pardon

The Feast of our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula
Holy Mass at Ty Mam Duw and the prayers for the Portiuncula Indulgence

Monday 2 August 2010 6.30

St Francis wanted to take everyone to heaven!

On this feastday we celebrate the love of the Lord revealed to St Francis by the Mother of God and confirmed by the Church. The Portiuncula was the first poor Church of the Franciscan Order. In Francis’ day, to obtain a plenary Indulgence - the remission of the temporal punishment due to sin - one had to make a longpilgrimage or go on crusade. Francis wanted this beautiful spiritual gift to be available to the poor and the least, and he persuaded Pope Honorius III to grant it to his little Church of Our Lady of the Angels on the day of its consecration. The gift was subsequently extended to all Franciscan Churches

You are so welcome to join us at this joyful Franciscan family occasion. The prayers for the Assisi Pardon, the Plenary Indulgence of the Portiuncula and the celebration of Holy Mass will be preceded from 5.30 by an hour of prayer and chants, during which the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available.

Carol Service 2009

The Annunciation at Cana!
Ty Mam Duw’s 1009 Carol Service. Saturday 28th November, 6.30 pm.

The Church is a herald, she announces what is coming up! Advent is the beginning of the Year for living out Jesus’ life in his Word. We begin with days of waiting for the fulness of Christ’s coming, born of a woman, to which the whole of the Old Testament is a dramatic prelude and a prophesy.

We come to Christ’s birth at Christmas and his proclamation to the world at the Epiphany. We follow him in his presentation in the Temple in February. In Lent we go out with him into the desert, In Holy Week we live the Paschal Mystery of his gift of his life and love in the Eucharist, his death on the cross and his rising to new life. We walk with him through the forty days of his risen life on earth and gaze upwards to heaven at his ascension into glory.

At Pentecost we receive the Spirit and in the light of the Spirit we live out Christ’s teaching and healing that proclaim his kingdom on earth - and, in November his Kingship over all time and space. We live out theses things, not by traveling in time to 1st century Palestine but by traveling the Word of God in Sacred Scripture through the liturgy of the Church.

In this year's Carol Service for the Eve of the first Sunday of Advent we begin this pilgrimage by taking hold of the Word of God in the gospels of the Annunciation and the Marriage at Cana (Luke 1 and John 3 respectively) We hear the Word with Mary and we hear Mary’s words with the Church - do what ever he tells you. This is an introduction to Lectio Divina, to consciously living and praying with the Word of God!
