Carol Service 2009

The Annunciation at Cana!
Ty Mam Duw’s 1009 Carol Service. Saturday 28th November, 6.30 pm.

The Church is a herald, she announces what is coming up! Advent is the beginning of the Year for living out Jesus’ life in his Word. We begin with days of waiting for the fulness of Christ’s coming, born of a woman, to which the whole of the Old Testament is a dramatic prelude and a prophesy.

We come to Christ’s birth at Christmas and his proclamation to the world at the Epiphany. We follow him in his presentation in the Temple in February. In Lent we go out with him into the desert, In Holy Week we live the Paschal Mystery of his gift of his life and love in the Eucharist, his death on the cross and his rising to new life. We walk with him through the forty days of his risen life on earth and gaze upwards to heaven at his ascension into glory.

At Pentecost we receive the Spirit and in the light of the Spirit we live out Christ’s teaching and healing that proclaim his kingdom on earth - and, in November his Kingship over all time and space. We live out theses things, not by traveling in time to 1st century Palestine but by traveling the Word of God in Sacred Scripture through the liturgy of the Church.

In this year's Carol Service for the Eve of the first Sunday of Advent we begin this pilgrimage by taking hold of the Word of God in the gospels of the Annunciation and the Marriage at Cana (Luke 1 and John 3 respectively) We hear the Word with Mary and we hear Mary’s words with the Church - do what ever he tells you. This is an introduction to Lectio Divina, to consciously living and praying with the Word of God!

Franciscan Prayer Day Monday 16 March 10.45am - 5pm

Who am I? Where do I come from? I do not come from a place, from ‘somewhere’, I come from God.
Though I have been begotten in time by human parents, I was created before time by God.  Made by God, I came forth from his hand and was touched by his blessing.  Though I am born into a world marked what we call original sin, yet before original sin, is original innocence..... Where am I..... Where am I going.... How?..... Who am I?

You are all welcome, meals are provided and there is no charge for this guided prayer day, but please book in advance and let us know if you subsequently find yourself unable to come.

Festival for St Colette

Saturday February 7th. 3.30

Annual St Colette Mass
With the blessing of expectant mothers, would-be parents and the newly born.

During her life St Colette, a 15th Century Poor Clare, was famed for her prayers for children - especially those very much wanted or on the way. The Annual Mass in her honour, as well as being a happy occasion where families bring their children and give thanks for their arrival, is an opportunity to receive a blessing with a relic of St Colette’s veil which she once wrapped round a dead child that the Lord subsequently restored to life.

Every one is welcome - and you do not have to be a baby (or expect one) to receive the blessing!
the Mass will be at here at the Poor Clare Colettines. Upper Aston Hall Lane, Hawarden North Wales CH5 3EN.

Please contact us if you are bringing a coach.
Refreshments in the hall afterwards!

If you are not able to come, please feel free to write now and send the names (first names only) of those for whom you would like us to pray on the day.

Carol Service

Carol Service for the Eve of the First Sunday of Advent
Saturday 29th November 6.30

The theme of this year‘s Carol service is:

Dr Newman’s Christmas

John Henry, Cardinal Newman was a powerful intellectual and a profound teacher, his writings have changed lives. Did he sing carols, prepare for Advent and enjoy the laughter of children? His life was full of great things, but did he do the greatest of little things; waste his time in joy?

Join us - and Fathers from the Birmingham Oratory, for this special celebration. It will include new TMD settings of some of Newman's poems and prayers.......

Remember, we live in Aston Hall Lane, Hawarden CH5 3EN North Wales!!!!!!!!!!!!
